Egmont Key is a secluded island located at the mouth of Tampa Bay, near Anna Maria Island, known for its rich history dating back to the 1800s. Originally, the island served as a camp for the military to protect the bay during the Spanish-American War in 1898. It became a state park in the 1970s. Today, the island is primarily a wildlife refuge where you can find sea turtles, gopher tortoise, Ospreys and Bald Eagles, among others.
